Wincenty "Bill" "Tuna" Tunewicz of Bridgewater passed away after a short illness, Tuesday February 24, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was 69. Son of the late John and Sophie (Markowski) Tunewicz. Devoted father of Lori-Ann Tunewicz-Gavin and her husband Paul and Jamie Doulette and her husband Robert all of Bridgewater. Grandfather of Kayleena Tunewicz, Lucas Gavin, Carly and Drew Doulette, and Jack and Ty Gavin. Brother of Penelope Lyman of Natick. Uncle to Kerrie Russell, Warren Smith lll, and Caralyn Tallino. Former husband of Adeine Silvia. Bill had many devoted friends who will miss him dearly.
Bill worked for the town of Bridgewater in both the highway and then Forestry Departments until his retirement in 2000. He planted many trees in Bridgewater including all of the trees that line Main Street. He was a third generation Bridgewater native. Graduate of Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School Class of 1963. He earned a certificate in Technical Drawing from Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston in 1965. At age 23 he designed and built his Family home. Bill was an avid outdoors man who loved hunting, fishing, trapping, and canoeing. He was a farmer and gardener and all around nature lover. Bill was an explorer, collector, inventor, and traveler. He also loved to read. He worked hard and played hard. He will surely be missed by all who loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday March 15th
at 2 PM followed by a casual party celebrating his life at the First Parish Church 50 School St. Bridgewater. All are welcome. Arrangements by Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home, Hanson.
Gifts to the Wildlands Fund of the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife remember Bill Tunewicz by directly supporting open-space protection in Massachusetts. The lands purchased with these monies will be forever maintained as wildlands, accessible to all who love being in the out-of-doors, lands that sportsmen like Bill would have enjoyed. By law, all lands acquired with Wildlands Conservation funds are open to the public for passive recreation, including fishing and hunting.
