Thomas J Powers of Hanson passed away peacefully with his family on Dec 2, 2021, at the age of 86 years old. He was the son of Biological mother Katherine Powers of Ireland. Thomas was a ward of the state and taken in and lived until he was an adult with Arthur and Anne Gorman of Easton, Mass. He considered them to be his parents.
Thomas met his wife in 1957 and married in 1962. They have been married for 59 beautiful and loving years. They have never been separated until this time and he will be deeply missed.
Thomas had retired from the Hanson School Department as a custodian. He served as the Dog Officer for Hanson for 16 years, and the Plymouth County Dog Officer for several years. He was also a custodian for a short time at the Brockton courthouse.
Thomas took great pride in living at Meeting House Lane. He served on the board with the Housing Authority at Meeting house and always took pleasure in reaching out to the neighbors. He loved having their yearly yard sale and he always felt it was his job to give back to people of Hanson. He could be seen around town on his red scooter going to Shaw's, McDonald's and Dunkin Donuts and even going to Sandy's coffee shop. He also enjoyed sitting out with the meeting house neighbors.
Thomas loved his family with his whole heart and always wanted to be together on all holidays! His younger years he enjoyed spending summers camping in Plymouth, his pool and 4th of July porch parties. He always loved the neighborhood of Cross Street and all the families associated with it. We may have been neighbors, but we really were family!
Thomas leaves behind his wife of 59 years Joan Powers (Keith), father of Susan Boncariewski and her husband Michael of Halifax, Marianne Sullivan, and her husband John of Methuen. John Powers and his wife Heidi of Tennessee, and father to the late Thomas J Powers Jr. Thomas was the devoted grandfather to Susan Nicole, Lindsay, Brian, Michael, Alec, Nicholas, Jason, and Tommy.
