Sheila Smith Obituary

Sheila Ann Smith

Sheila Ann Smith (Styles) of Hanson, MA, 83, passed away after a brief illness on April 13, 2024. She passed peacefully and was surrounded by her loving family. Sheila warmed rooms whenever she entered, and talking with her family and friends was her favorite way to spend time. She loved making jewelry and also enjoyed camping, photography, knitting, travelling, shopping, and reading.

Sheila graduated from West Bridgewater High School in 1958 where she was involved in the National Honor Society, the yearbook committee, and the Sports and Driving Clubs. Later, she worked in retail for over 30 years at Sears and Mammoth Mart. She was very active in the Girl Scouts and was a president of the PTA in Brockton. She founded Hanson Advocates for Talented Students, an organization aimed at promoting education through after-school activities, in the 1980s, and the Friends of the Hanson Multi Service Senior Center in 2014. Most importantly, she was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Sheila is survived by her husband, Donald Smith, Sr., her children, Terri Englert, Kimberly Thomas, Richard Forest, Stephen Forest, Donald Smith, Jr., and Sheila Bailey, her sister, Susan Agresti, eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. We will all miss her deeply. She was predeceased by her parents, Vina Secrest and Stanley Styles.

Sheila’s graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 PM on April 22. All are invited to the service and a celebration of life that will follow it from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Elks Lodge in Wareham (2855 Cranberry Highway). In lieu of flowers, please contribute donations in Sheila’s name to the Hanson Food Pantry (https://www.hansonfoodpantry.org/) or Old Colony Elder Services (https://ocesma.org/get-involved/donate).
