Robert J. Croghan

Robert J. Croghan age 52 of Hanson and East Hampton, New York, died on February 13 after an auto accident on Long Island where he had lived since 2003. Robert was born 11/11/62, one of four sons in a large family. He was raised in Hanson and graduated in 1981 from Christian Ministries Day School in Canton, Ohio. After graduation he travelled cross-country through the Yukon territories to Palmer, Alaska to work on a commercial dairy farm. Among other duties there, he managed a dozen Clydesdale horses, which he described as the experience of a lifetime. Upon his return to New England, he served in and was honorably discharged from the National Guard, having attained 'secret' FBI clearance. A man of great intellectual curiosity, Bob worked in a variety of professions, ranging from biomedical technician to artist's assistant. A master carpenter, he was the principal in a successful contracting business based in East Hampton, New York.

 

He took classes at Massasoit Community College and attended Bridgewater State College for two years. He is survived by his devoted daughter Chelsey Croghan of Calverton, NY, and two grandsons, Christian and Alexander Pinargote, who he lovingly called his "best buddies." Robert is also survived by his mother, Jean F. Croghan, brothers Stephen Croghan and wife, Teresa, Patrick Croghan and wife, Joanne, brother-in-law Robert Billings, all of Hanson, sisters Mary Croghan of East Hampton, NY, Ann Krueger and husband Francis, of Halifax and Marguerite Cummings and husband Paul, of East Sandwich and a host of nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his father Stephen John Croghan, brother Matthew Francis Croghan, and sister Virginia Alice Billings. Services Saturday, February 21st at the Leighton-Mackinnon Funeral Home, 4 West Washington St., Hanson at 1 PM. A memorial service in East Hampton, New York is scheduled at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Amagansett at a later date. Burial will be at a later Date.
