Margaret L. (Reid) Bernardo of Middleboro, formerly of Hanson, died peacefully on Hospice at Brockton Hospital on Saturday, January 21, 2023. She was 93 years old. Born in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Agnes (Scagliarini) Reid. She was the beloved wife of the late Adelino "Lenny" Bernardo. Loving mother of Beth Stafford and her husband William, Sr. of Whitman, Dale Makein and her husband Thomas, of Plymouth, Brett Bernardo and his wife, Melanie of Akron, Ohio and Jill Hubbard of Odessa, Florida. Proud Nana to eleven and great Nana to 15 with two more on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Kenneth Reid and his wife, Marsha of Plymouth, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Peggy was a dental assistant for many years until going to nursing school and becoming an LPN at the age of 47. She worked at Brockton and Morton Hospitals and several nursing homes before retiring in her 80's. She was a 4H, Brownie, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts leader , past President of the Hanson-Pembroke Mother's Club and a member of the Oak Point Women's Club in Middleboro.
Peggy loved to cook and bake. She was known for her flan, pasta and especially her homemade tortellini. Her favorite pastime was traveling. She traveled throughout Europe, many Caribbean Islands, Brazil, Mexico, Hong Kong and Bali just to name a few. She also traveled throughout the United States.
She was also predeceased by her two daughters; Mary and Joy and her brother; Walter "Sonny" Reid.
Visiting Hours will be at the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 West Washington St. (Corner Rte. 58) Hanson on Thursday, January 26th from 3:00PM - 7:00PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Monponsett St., (Rte. 58) in Halifax, Friday, January 27th at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave in Bourne at 1:30PM.
