Anne (Close) Haskell, 89, and a lifelong resident of Hanson, passed away on December 8th, after a period of declining health. She was born on December 6, 1933, daughter of Elsie (Gorham) Close and John Close. Anne was a graduate of Wheelock College with a degree in teaching.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Ken and her daughter June Haskell. She is survived by her children; Kenny Haskell wife Cathie of Mashpee, Ma, her daughter Nancy Weston and husband Paul of Halifax, and her son Bob Haskell and wife Julie of Newnan, Georgia. Anne is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicholas Haskell and Nate Haskell, Paul Weston and his wife Courtney, Rachel Medina and her husband Victor, and Allison Haskell and her fiance, AJ Blaylock. She is also survived by her sister, Pauline Boyd and her husband, Bill of Orleans, Ma., as well as many nieces and nephews that were all dear to her. Anne was especially proud to be the great- grandmother of Charlotte (Charlie) and Reese Weston and Eden and Sadie Anne Medina. She lit up when she saw the children, either in person or in pictures, and delighted in hearing of their activities.
Anne was a long time educator with the Whitman- Hanson school system. Anne (Mrs. Haskell to her students) taught several generations of first graders at both the L.Z. Thomas school and Maquan Elementary. Being a teacher was Anne’s greatest joy and teaching children was deeply a part of her identity. Her many students throughout the years remained close to her heart. She particularly loved receiving cards and letters from former students and took great pleasure in hearing of their accomplishments. She deeply valued her school connections and the many friendships that she made through the schools.
She was a member of the Bryantville Methodist Church. In church she was known for her smile, her many stories of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her fondness for the church community. Her family roots ran deep in the town of Hanson. She maintained treasured relationships with friends that dated back to her own elementary school days. She remained active until her health declined, and enjoyed many social times with her friends in local restaurants and stores throughout the area.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18th from 2 -6 at the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home in Hanson A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 19th at 10:30 at the Bryantville Methodist Church, 546 Mattakeesett St., Pembroke. MA. Internment will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson
