Anita L Marsella

Anita L. Marsella, 81, of North Dighton, MA passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on October 24, 2023, at the Life Care Center in Attleboro, MA.

Born in Somerset on May 23, 1942, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Machado) Pontes.

Anita leaves behind her loving husband of over 47 years, Joseph F. Marsella, her daughter Gina Smith, and her husband Gregory Smith, and most importantly the light of her life, her granddaughter, Evelynn Louise Smith. Anita took great pride in her “Vitamin E” and loved being her Gigi. Their bond was truly unique, and they brought great joy to one another.

Anita will be dearly missed by many loving brothers, sisters and nieces and nephews.

Spending time with her family was Anita’s greatest delight. She considered herself fortunate to be able to stay at home to raise her daughter, and she was perfect at it. She welcomed her daughter’s friends to her home as if they were her own, and was generous with her time and love.

Once her nest was empty, Anita, always busy, started working at Shaw’s Supermarket in Taunton part time. Anita quickly became very popular with her upbeat and fun attitude, and her infectious personality. She stayed there long enough to officially “retire”, and she enjoyed the work and the people immensely.

She was also an amazing shopper! One of her favorite things to do before Parkinson’s Disease slowed her down, was to shop for clothes for Evelynn. She made sure her granddaughter was one of the best dressed girls around!

Anita leaves behind so many beautiful memories for those that knew and loved her. While she will be missed immensely, her love will always be felt, as it was great and all encompassing- much like her beautiful smile.

Per her wishes, there will be no formal funeral services.  In lieu of this, the family would like to invite anyone that would like to attend to a memorial luncheon on January 7, 2024, at 12 noon to take place at The Chateau Restaurant located at 48 Bay Road in Norton MA.  We would love you to pop in when you can, share some food and fun memories of Anita.
