William R. Stafford, Sr., 74, of Whitman, died March 10th peacefully at home after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's Disease. He was born in Brockton, the son of the late Raymond E. Stafford, Sr. and Dolores F. (Morse) Stafford. Bill spent his entire life in Whitman, graduating from Whitman-Hanson Class of 1970. He graduated from the New England Institute of Embalming and Funeral Directing. He worked in the funeral industry for over 40 years at various Funeral Homes before retiring, Bill then worked at Norwell Audi and for his son Brad's construction company. Bill was a former member of the Whitman Capital Committee, Treasurer of the Whitman Visiting Nurses, and Trustee of Colebrook Cemetery. Bill and his wife owned S & S Limousine from 1984-1995. They also started the D.A.R.E. program at Whitman Middle School. Bill loved boating, fishing, music and anything to do with the ocean. After his diagnosis he was still able to travel to Aruba and Italy. He enjoyed reading until his disease took away his short term memory and his ability to read and follow TV shows. Bill adored his family and cherished the times that they were all together. He is survived by his loving wife, Beth (Bernardo) Stafford, his sons, Bill, Jr. of Seekonk, Brad and his partner, Michelle of Newton and Barrett and his wife, Krissy of Whitman. He also leaves his eight grandchildren, Jayden, Phoebe, Mia, Maddy, Jaxon, Nora, Sophia, and Blake. He is also survived by his two brothers, Ray Stafford, Jr, and Thomas Stafford, stepbrother Rusty Philbrook, three sisters, Barbara Pike, Judy Allen, and Sandra Wheeler and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visiting hours will be in the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 West Washington St. (Corner of Rte. 58) Hanson on Friday, March 14, 2025,3 to 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Church in Whitman Saturday, March 15th at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Whitman.
