Obituary

Ronald R. Grattan of Hanson passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Brockton Hospital. He was 80 years old. He was born in Malden; son of the late Robert W. & Harriet R. (Anderson) Grattan. He was the loving husband of Constance T. (VonRhee) Grattan and the beloved father of Steven and his wife Kathleen of Plymouth, Denise and her husband Craig of New Hampshire, and Kerri and her husband Wesley of East Bridgewater. Loving brother of Carol J. Mahoney and her life partner Alan Bonneau of Plymouth. He was the cherished grandfather of Erica, Nicole, Michael, Kyra, John, Kiersten, and Devon and great grandfather of Christopher, Maddison, and Allison. He was the uncle of Kim, Kristen, and the late Kenneth as well as other nieces and nephews.

Ronald was a graduate of Braintree High School Class of 1951. He served in the Army National Guard for 7 years. He moved to Hanson over 50 years ago. He worked in the printing business as a Lithographer for Brockton Type Setting and Hanson Printing. He also worked in Maintenance for the Silver Lake Regional School System. He was a member of the Hanson Conservation Committee, Healthtrax in Hanover, the Hanson Athletic Association, and the Hilltop Athletic Association in Kingston. He was a devoted owner of Black Labradors his whole life often seen walking his dog by the cranberry bogs in Hanson.

Ronald was a perennial champion horseshoe player and was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitching Association (NHPA). He was known throughout the South Shore and the State where he was the State Team Champion. He Placed 7th in the world in a tournament in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, April 19, from 2-5 pm in the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 West Washington St., (at rte 58) Hanson, with a 5 pm Words of Remembrance Service in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will take place a t a later date in Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson.
