Robert V Hughes  age 95 of Plymouth retired plumber of Boston Plumbers Union Local 12 passed away Saturday May 13, 2017. He was the husband of the late Virginia E. (Lund) Hughes and husband of the late Mary (Quinn) Hughes .

Born and educated in Boston, son of the late James W. and Bertha (Schleicher) Hughes he lived for thirty five years in the town of Whitman. He was a former enrollee with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Wyoming and Vermont in the late thirties. He was a paratrooper with the 507 Parachute Infantry Regiment, during W.W ll and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, with Oak Leaf, Presidential Unit Citation with Oak Leaf,  Eastern Theater Offensive Ribbon with 4 combat stars and Invasion Spearhead. He was a member of the Plumbers Union Local #12, 507 for over 60 years, The Parachute Infantry Association, and the D.A.V.  Mr. Hughes was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling.

He leaves behind his Daughters Joanne Palmer of Apex, NC, Karen Maynard of East Bridgewater,  Barbara Bancroft of Lakeville, Suzanne Gonsalves of Carver,  Mary Ann Hughes Fahey of Norfolk, VA, Sons Robert J. Hughes of Meredith, NH, and Michael Hughes of Raleigh, NC. Brother of Elizabeth Packer of Pembroke and Christine Ruley of Whitman.  Also survived by 12 grandchildren, numerous step Children, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be in the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 West Washington St. (Corner Rte. 58) Hanson on Tuesday 10:30 Am to 12 PM with services in the Funeral Home at 12 noon. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial to follow at St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Robert was a W.W. ll Decorated Veteran in the U.S. Army.
