Richard James Flinn, age 74, of Canton, passed away November 3, 2022, at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care in Milton, MA. Rich was born September 28, 1948 in Boston, MA. He was a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School and University of Massachusetts, earning a degree in Biology. He furthered his education in Business at Bentley University. He was married to Alice Collins for 35 years. Rich retired from a career in banking, having spent the last 15 years at T. D. North Bank working as a Vice president in the Asset Based Lending Department. Rich was a regular communicant at Saint Oscar Romero Parish (formerly, St John the Evangelist Parish) in Canton. He was a member of the William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park, where he golfed regularly. Along with playing golf, Rich loved vacationing in Hawaii where he and Alice traveled yearly, spending time with family, and throwing a football with his dog, Riggsy. Always putting family first, Rich unselfishly donated a kidney to his brother Peter, resulting in a life-prolonging transplant. Rich was the son of the late Thomas J. Flinn, Jr and Virginia (Brooks) Flinn. He is survived by his beloved wife Alice Collins Flinn, his stepdaughter Karen D. Bellinger of London, England and 3 step granddaughters, Hadley, Meriel and Sage. Dear brother of Thomas J. Flinn, III and his wife Celine of Norfolk, John B. Flinn and his wife Cyndy of East Dennis, Mary Flinn Cunningham and her husband Will of Needham, Joanne Flinn Ewing of Portland, OR, Christopher M. Flinn and his wife Susan of Dedham, Robert G. Flinn and his wife Laurie of Walpole, Janice Flinn Powers and her husband Christopher of Boston. He was predeceased by his brother Peter. He also leaves his lifelong close friend and cousin, Bill Colpoys. Rich leaves many nephews, nieces, and cousins as well as many dear friends.
Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held on November 16, 2022 at Saint Oscar Romero Church, 700 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021; with a 9:45 AM Visitation followed by a 10:30 Mass. Interment afterward at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Randolph St., Canton, MA. In lieu of flowers, Rich's wife Alice respectfully requests that donations be made to the Seasons Hospice Foundation, 8537 Solution Center, Chicago, IL 60677. Alice and Rich's family want to express their gratitude to Rich's doctors and nurses from both Beth Israel Medical Center, Oncology Unit and Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care for their exceptional care and communication during his treatment. Alice would especially like to thank Rich's family and many friends for their tremendous support and caring during this difficult time.
