Obituary

John Alfred Robinson Sr., 82, of Rockland, MA, was born at Hyannis Hospital in Massachusetts on June 11, 1940, and passed away peacefully in Weymouth, MA on October 18, 2022, following an illness.  He was predeceased by his parents, Alice Lingham Robinson Chesbro and Forrest David Robinson of Orleans, MA and David Robinson, an older brother.  He is survived by his sister Almira R. Parady (Louis Wm - Bill) of Rockwood, ME; his wife of 52 years Martha Pye Robinson of Rockland, MA; and his children Anne R. Krog (Thomas) of Rockland, MA; John A. Robinson, Jr. (Sofia) of Chula Vista, CA and Daniel J. Julevich (Kirsten) of Tampa, FL.  He also leaves 5 grandchildren: Kerri and Garrett of Tampa, Emma of Rockland, and John E. and Andrew of Chula Vista.  Additionally, John was an honorary father figure to many others who remain part of our family.

John was a 1960 Graduate of Nauset Regional H.S. and graduated from Newbury Junior College with a degree in Business Management in 1976. He was honorably discharged in 1967 from the U.S. Army where he served as an auto mechanic.  He loved working on cars and trucks.

John held many jobs before finding his career with the Hingham Public Schools where he worked as a custodian in the maintenance department and as the fields caretaker, lining and maintaining all the town athletic fields.  Upon retirement, he was recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives and the State Senate for his "dedicated and distinguished service to the students and the community."  John was also honored by the Hingham High School Hall of Fame, being recognized as a Friend of Hingham Athletics for his "contributions and years of support to the athletes of Hingham."  While at the Hingham Public Schools, John was elected and served many years as Treasurer of the Bus Drivers and Custodians Union.

John was also very active with the U.K.T.S. of Quincy and Pembroke between the years of 1968 and 2020.  He served as Sauna Custodian, Treasurer and President and received a lifetime service award "In recognition of outstanding service and dedication to the U.K.T.S."

John was an adventurous soul.  He enjoyed traveling and made many cross-country road trips with his family.  He had visited all 50 states as well as traveling in Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean Islands.  He loved nature and visited multiple National Parks and Forests.

John also loved landscaping and building, but most of all he enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone he met.  He was easy to talk to because he also listened.  He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

John was a cancer survivor, but his passing was brought on by kidney failure.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to:

The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA 02445
