John F. Niland of Hanson passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the age of 91.  He was the loving husband of 69 years to the late Frances (Bright) Niland and the loving father of John Niland and his wife Beth of East Bridgewater, Terry McGovern and her husband Dennis of Sandwich, and Donna Folan and her husband Micheal of Hanson.

He came from a large family of 12 brothers and sisters, with 7 siblings surviving: George Niland, Richard Niland, Estelle Freeburger, Mary Donovan, Francis Niland, William Niland, and Joan Berube. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He was a loving family man with a strong work ethic.  He was employed at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum for 42 years.  John had a strong carpentry background and created cabinets and furniture for many family members. He enjoyed spending time with his family and keeping up to date on the activities of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Visiting hours will be held at Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 West Washington St. (Corner of Rte. 58) Hanson on October 21, 2024, from 10 AM to 12 PM with services in the Funeral Home at  12 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson.
