John J.R. Brenton, Sr., age 74 of Halifax, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Ibbitson) Brenton of Halifax.
Devoted father of John Brenton Jr. and his wife Erin of Kingston, Michael Brenton and his wife Rebekah of Hingham, and Katie Brenton of Weymouth. Loving brother of Roy Brenton of Weymouth, Geraldine Atherton of Florida, Derek Brenton of Bridgewater, Albert Brenton of Medfield and the late Gordon, Bert, Frank, Max, Kenneth, Doris and Roberta Brenton, and Al and Helen Follen. Cherished grandfather of Heather, CJ and Nolan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
John was a U.S. Army veteran, who spent many years working as a field service technician for 3M Lanier Worldwide. A member of the First Baptist Church in Hanson and Vineyard Church in Kingston. John was also very active in the Halifax community in various roles as disc jockey for local youth dance events, coaching youth sports including baseball, softball and soccer, as well as holding several positions over the years in local town government including the Finance Committee and Board of Health. A true jack of all trades, he touched all those that he came in contact with and will be sadly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday, September 16th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Leighton- MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 West Washington St. (corner Rte. 58) Hanson. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11:15AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org (online donation).
