Joan Marie Powers (Keith) of Hanson passed away peacefully with her family on June 14, 2024, at the age of 83 years old. She was the daughter of Harry and Katherine Keith of Holbrook, Mass. She was raised with an older sister Ann and a brother Robert.
Joan went to Bridgewater State University with a degree in teaching. Joan met her husband Thomas and married in 1962. They had been married for 59 beautiful and loving years prior to his death in Dec 2021.
Joan was a tutor and considered a permanent and regular substitute in the towns of Hanover, Whitman and Hanson. She was loved and remembered by so many. Over all her years and even up to 5 months ago, people would approach her and say are you Mrs. Powers? They would tell her how much they loved having her as a teacher. Her family would always tell her she was a "legend".
She raised her family in Hanson on Cross Street, making so many memories with great neighbors. She always made neighborhood kids welcome.
Tom and Joan moved to Meeting House Lane and again she had that ability to make more lasting friendships that she treasured immensely. You could see her all year long usually at 8 pm walking around meeting house with her walker praying the rosary faithfully. She was so devoted to the Blessed Mother. Joan could be seen walking around the Shaw's parking lot looking for change on the ground to donate to the poor.
Joan was a member of St Joseph's Sodality and made so many lasting friendships. She loved reading, shopping, sitting in the sun and spending time with family. She loved goodies and hot fudge sundae!
Joan ended up in Wingate Nursing home and a few doors down from her was her best friend, Barbara. Joan spent every night sitting and talking with her and I think they were planning their next adventure in the afterlife. We are praying they are all together.
Mother of late son Thomas Powers Jr. Mother of Susan Boncariewski and husband Michael of Halifax. Marianne Sullivan, and her husband John of Methuen. John Powers and his wife Heidi of Tennessee. Grandmother to Susan Nicole, Lindsay, Bryan, Michael, Alec, Nicolas, Jason and Tommy. Great grandmother to Trenton, Melanie, Alison, Daniel, Joanne, Tommy and Michael.
Life will never be the same without Joan, but we know she has eternal peace and will watch over all of us
