Jeanne (Cunningham) Ellis, age 84, of Hanson, died peacefully, Tuesday May 9, 2018 after a long illness.

Jeanne was born and raised in Rockland.  She was a graduate of Rockland High School, Class of 1951. She was also a member of the National Honor Society. Upon marriage to Melvin Ellis, she lived in Hanson where she was employed as a food service worker for the Hanson School Department for over 20 years. Previously, she had worked for New England Telephone in Rockland. She was a sports enthusiast, keeping a close eye on "her" Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox, and especially the Patriots. This included participating in (and winning the championship in) a fantasy football league. She was also very much interested in gardening with her own herb garden at her home in Hanson after she retired. Jeanne was very devoted to her family as wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Beloved wife for 62 years to the late Melvin Ellis of Hanson. Devoted mother of three sons, Wayne Ellis and his partner Rita Varney of Largo, FL, Paul Ellis and his wife Lynn of Adelaide, Australia, and Kenneth Ellis and his wife Dianne of Carver, MA. Loving grandmother of Jesse Ellis and his wife Victoria of Carver, Amanda (Ellis) Van Patten-Steiger and her husband Marc of Tarpon Springs, FL, Adam Ellis and his partner Jenna Loschiavo  of Baltimore, MD, Stephen Ellis and his partner Lindsay Mitchell of Clearwater, FL, Corey Ellis of Carver,  Jared Ellis and his partner Amanda Deibel of Bridgewater, MA and Amy Ellis of Carver. Cherished great grandmother of Logan and Malorie Ellis of Carver and Samantha and Madison Van Patten-Steiger of Tarpon Springs. Beloved daughter of the late Maurice and Dorothy Cunningham of Rockland. Dear sister of Maureen Foresta of Hingham, the late Nancy Stephenson of Wareham, and the late Dr. Beverly Joyce of Stony Brook, NY. Jeanne is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be in the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 West Washington St. (Corner Rte. 58) Hanson on Monday June 25th 9-10:30 with a service at 10:30 in the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne at 2 PM.
