Gilbert W. Hammond

Gilbert passed on April 20, 2012 to be with his Lord and Savior. Born in Brockton, Mass, September 5, 1938, formerly of Hanson, Massachusetts and Bradenton, Florida.

Husband of Marion S. Hammond (Williamson) of Bradenton, FL for 51 years. Loving father 4 daughters Lynn Burns and her husband John of Loudonville, NY, Michelle M. Enzinger and her husband Michael of Indianapolis, IN, Andrea J. Hammond of Bradenton, FL, Tiffany Nellis of Bradenton, FL. Brother of Samuel G. Hammond and his wife Gladys of Hanson, MA. Brother in law of Sue E. Norton and her husband Hal of Abington, MA and Tina Carlson of Farmington, NH. Beloved grandfather of Christopher S. Douglas and his wife Nichole of Delmar, NY, Caitlin S. Douglas of Washington, DC, Brittany A. Stewart of Swansboro, NC, Kayleigh Nellis and Timothy G. Nellis of Bradenton, FL. Great Grandfather of Theodore W. Douglas and Alyssa Defoe of Delmar, NY, Elizabeth R.N. Stewart and Sarah Lynn Stewart of Swansboro, NC. Uncle of many nieces and nephews.

He was the son of the late Gilbert W. Hammond Sr. and the late Abbie E. Hammond (Nordin) and predeceased by late brother Elmer R. Hammond of Massachusetts. Predeceased brother in law Robert L. Williamson of Vermont and mother in law Eleanor M. Williamson of Abington, Mass, and late son in law Tim Nellis of Bradenton, FL.

Gilbert served proudly in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Hanson Firefighters 1975-1984, a past member of Hanson Auxiliary Police of Hanson, Civil Defense Director of Hanson 1980-1981, Secretary and President of Local 2713 Firefighters Union of Hanson Fire Department. He was a CPR Instructor, trainer and lecturer of the American Red Cross and American Heart Association. Gilbert of a Registered EMTA Medical Officer of the Hanson Fire Department. He was made a lifetime member of the Hanson Firefighter's Association before moving to Florida in 1985. Mr. Hammond was also the Massachusetts Examiner of OEMS.

In addition, Mr. Hammond was the Foreman Supervisor of APAC of Florida, retired in 1991 after a series of strokes. Gilbert owned and operated the Blue Gingham Craft Shoppe in Hanson with his wife Marion, where they made many doll houses. His hobbies before his death were carving, woodworking and gardening. He was a past member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Sarasota, FL.

Calling Hours will be May 2, 2012 5-8pm at Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 W. Washington St. HANSON. Funeral Service will be celebrated in the funeral home on May 3, 2012 at 10am by Pastor Jason D. Genest of the First Baptist Church of Middleboro. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson.
