Gene
Michaud
April 16, 2026
Gene Michaud, of Lady Lake, FL, and Pembroke, MA, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, respected teacher, proud veteran, and cherished friend.
Gene was born on August 24, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Joseph and Hazel Michaud, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorraine Michaud, and his siblings, Floyd (Honey), Norman, and Margie.
At a young age, Gene answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1950. During his four years of honorable service, he trained and worked as an aircraft mechanic, developing skills that would shape his future. Following his military service, Gene continued in the aviation field as an airplane mechanic for American Airlines before later working as an auto mechanic. His experience and dedication ultimately led him to a career in education.
Gene earned his bachelor’s degree from Fitchburg State College and became an automotive technology teacher at Tri-County Regional High School in Franklin, Massachusetts, where he spent many years educating and mentoring students. His influence extended well beyond the classroom, inspiring generations of young people through his knowledge, work ethic, and genuine care for their success. The graduating class of 1980 remained especially close to Gene, maintaining contact with him throughout his life.
Gene had many interests and was deeply involved in his community. He was a proud member of the American Legion, where he formed lasting friendships and continued his commitment to service. An avid amateur (ham) radio operator, Gene enjoyed connecting with people across the country and around the world. He also had a passion for dancing and embraced life with enthusiasm, dancing three to four times each week until his 92nd birthday.
He is survived by his beloved son, Don, and daughter-in-law, Jan; his cherished grandchildren, Zak and Julie; and his devoted nieces, Sandy, Laurie, Ann, and Heather, whose lives he enriched immeasurably and who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.
In accordance with his wishes, the family will hold a private ceremony to honor Gene’s life—reflecting his desire to be remembered in a simple, sincere, and meaningful way, surrounded by those he loved most.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gene’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
Gene will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous spirit, and the way he made people feel valued and capable. Whether in the classroom, on the dance floor, or in conversation, he brought warmth, humor, and quiet strength to those around him. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and in the family who will carry his love forward.
