Obituary

It is with a deep sense of loss and cherished memories that we announce the passing of our father, Donald A. Siereveld, on January 14, 2025, at the age of 93. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Anne T. (Mollomo) Siereveld. He was the son of the late Adrian and Emma Siereveld of Ohio.

Don was born and raised in Cincinnati, one of ten children. He attended vocational high school, excelling in cabinetry, which laid the foundation for his career. After graduating, he began working at Baldwin Piano, building intricate piano casings and earning a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship. In addition to his woodworking skills, Don was a talented baseball player. As a young man, he had the opportunity to participate in workouts with the Cincinnati Reds and was later drafted by the Detroit Tigers. At age 20, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. During the Korean War, he spent two years at sea and another two years in Hawaii, where he played baseball for the U.S. Navy team. While in Hawaii, Don met his wife, Anne, who served as a Navy Wave. After their discharge, Don and Anne married and settled in Pembroke, Massachusetts, where they raised their three children. The family later moved to Hanson, where they continued to build a life filled with love and cherished memories.

Don was a dedicated educator who earned his undergraduate and Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees from Fitchburg State College. He spent 30 years as a vocational teacher at Silver Lake Regional High School, profoundly impacting countless students through his passion for teaching. For many years, Don also served as the head coach of the Silver Lake varsity baseball team, where he guided and inspired young athletes to reach their full potential.

Don was a devoted family man who cherished his time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of Hanson's baseball community, where he organized the town's first T-ball team and dedicated many years to coaching various baseball divisions, from T-ball to Babe Ruth. Don was also a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State football; if you entered his house during one of those games, you better be supporting one of those teams. In addition to his love for sports, Don enjoyed traveling. He and Anne took numerous road trips across the United States to visit historical sites. He also loved working in his yard, riding his John Deere tractor, and cruising through the pines and fields on his golf cart.

Don is survived by his sons, Scott (Leah) and David (Tina) Siereveld; his daughter, Terese (Stephen) Croghan; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is the brother of Maryann Moore, Larry, Gerry, and Ralph Siereveld, all of Cincinnati, the late Betty Klug, Shirley Brogan, Gladys Stohlman, and Harold and Adrian Siereveld.

At Don's request, services will be private. If you would like to honor his memory,  please consider donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. www.stjude.org
