D. Marie
Christensen
November 4, 2023
D. Marie (Colwell) Christensen, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at Bay Path in Kingston at the age of 94, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Marie was the daughter of the late Wesley and Helen Colwell of Needham. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, originally from Randolph, and grandson, Jason Christensen. Marie is survived by her loving children, daughter Bonnie (Christensen) Peterson and husband Alan of Pembroke, and son Mark Christensen and his wife Jackie of Hanover. Cherished grandmother of Lisa (Peterson) Rävar and husband Jeremy of Augusta, Maine; Lynn (Peterson) Swallow and husband George of Kingston; Luke Christensen and wife Jill of Pembroke; Erin (Christensen) Rockett and husband Tommy of Pembroke. Marie was a loving great-grandmother to Lynn's son Brian, Quinley Rockett, Mason Christensen, and Arina Ravar. Marie is also survived by her two brothers, Calvin Colwell of Westwood and Walter Colwell of California, and her sister, Ginny Anthony of New Hampshire, as well as nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends. She will be deeply missed and dearly remembered by her family and all those who knew and loved her. Marie grew up in Needham, where she met the love of her life, husband Don. They were married on July 3, 1949, and moved to Abington, where they raised their two children, Mark and Bonnie, until 1957, when they bought their house in Hanover. Marie and Don were married for 51 years before Don's death in 2000. She had been a Hanover resident for over 66 years. In her younger years, Marie was a hairdresser. When her children were grown, she worked in the cafeteria at the Cedar Elementary School. Then her focus turned to being a certified home health care worker where she worked in many homes for over 30 years. Marie was a natural caretaker and her clients loved it when she came to their homes. Marie was also an avid animal lover. Marie and Don always had an animal or two and that love for animals has been passed down generation after generation. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, November 18, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 West Washington Street, Hanson.
