Brian J. O'Connell of Pembroke passed away on Sunday September 10, 2017 at the age of 77. He is the beloved Husband of Mary R. (Martin) O'Connell. The loving Father of Jim O'Connell and his Wife Kathleen of Braintree and Don O'Connell and his Wife Kristin of Hanover. Brother of Maureen O'Connell of Milton and Daniel O'Connell of Hingham. Grandfather of James, Brian, Jordan, and Abigail. Great Grandfather of Monika. Also survived by several Nieces and Nephews.
Brian grew up in Milton, graduating from BC High in 1957. He received a B.S. in Business and Economics from Norwich University in 1961. He served in the army from 1961 to 1968 during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He attended Bentley College, received a law degree from Suffolk University in 1973 and an MBA from Babson College in 1977.
He was an IRS revenue agent for more than 30 years. When he retired in 1995 he started his own firm as a tax attorney. He also served as treasurer and director of Laser's Edge for over 30 years. He enjoyed scuba diving, boating, fishing, skiing, hiking, playing ice hockey and was an avid fitness enthusiast. He was well regarded by professionals and colleagues and maintained friendships for many decades. He was a faithful and devoted husband to Mary, the love of his life. He cherished spending time with his family, and being "Papa" to his grandchildren. He was our guiding light and always dropped whatever he was doing to help any of us. He was a man of faith; loved God, country and family. He was trustworthy and dependable, had integrity and the highest moral character, a sharp wit and a keen intellect. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visiting hours will be held at the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 West Washington St. (Corner Rte. 58) Hanson on Thursday Sept. 14th from 4 -8 PM. Funeral Mass in St. Joseph The Worker Church (Corner of Rte.'s 14 & 58) Hanson on Friday at 11 AM.
Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will take place at Central Cemetery, Halifax.
