Obituary

Alexander "Al" (Mac) MacVicar of Hanson passed away on December 10 th at Brockton Hospital. He was 84 years old. Al was the husband of Betty (Tompkins) MacVicar of Hanson. He was the loving father of Barbara MacVicar and boyfriend Kevin Hannan of Hanson, Brenda Simpson and her friend William of Plymouth, Margaret Murray of Plymouth, Mary Jane MacVicar and her boyfriend Matthew Corbett of Hanson and the late John MacVicar. Mr. MacVicar was a proud grandfather of 8 and predeceased by a grandson, the late Ryan Matthew MacVicar Hannan. Alexander was predeceased by his brothers the late John "Jackie" McVicar and Robert "Bobby" McVicar.

Mr. MacVicar was born on August 11, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts and was the son of the late John and Bessie (McKinnon) McVicar. He was the only member to install an "A" in MacVicar as he was proud of his Scottish heritage. Al served our country with honor during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Army. He returned home and married Betty, his bride of 56 years. They called Hanson home since 1959 after moving from Rockland.

Al enjoyed scratch tickets and hit it big a few times. Loved going out for breakfast. Sam's restaurant was his best place to go. Al also loved watching Westerns and the Patriots and Red Sox games. Bowling and Bingo were two of his favorite hobbies. Mr. MacVicar loved to spend time with buddies at the Hanson AA. Most of all Al loved his family and their dog Bear.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday December 14 th from 4-7pm at Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 W. Washington St. HANSON. A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday December 15 th at 10:00 at First Congregation Church 639 High St HANSON. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Fern Hill Cemetery in HANSON.
