Adelino J. "Lenny" Bernardo of Middleboro, formerly of Hanson died peacefully on Friday June 21, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was 90 years old. Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Alvaro and Maria (DeJesus) Bernardo. He was the beloved husband of Margaret "Peg" (Reid) Bernardo for 65 years. Loving father of Beth M. Stafford and her husband William Sr. of Whitman, Dale F. Makein and her husband Thomas of Plymouth, Brett P. Bernardo and his friend Kim of OH, Jill D. Hubbard and her husband David Sr. of FL. Proud grandfather to 11 and great grandfather to 6.

Lenny served in the Army in the 10 ^th Armored Division under Gen. Patton. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received 2 Purple Hearts. After the service he went to Boston University and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education. He later earned a Master in Guidance and a Masters in Administration. He taught everything from auto shop, civics to all levels of math. He taught in Pembroke, Avon, Randolph an ended his career as a guidance counselor and Assistant Principal at Indian Head School in Hanson. Lenny was also an umpire and referee. He retired after refereeing after 50 years in his 70's and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield. Len enjoyed watching sports, gardening and especially being with his family. He was predeceased by his sister Dolores Cathcart and his two daughters Mary and Joy.



Visiting hours will be in the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 West Washington St. ( Corner Rte. 58) Hanson Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the lake Church Rte. 58 in Halifax Thursday at 9 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be in Mass National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:45 PM.
