Emily Marguerite Donlon

Emily Marguerite Donlon, of Hanover, died September 30, 2018 at the age of 84.

Born July 29, 1934 to Errol and Helen Cook, she was raised in Marlborough. Married first to Hedley Pentheny, and after his passing, to Jack Donlon, she raised her children in Sudbury before retiring in Charlottesville, VA for nearly 20 years. In 2010, she returned to the area, settling in Hanover.

Emily worked for years part-time as an accountant but found her real passion through entrepreneurship. She was an accomplished crafter, particularly in the areas of knitting and jewelry, and traveled throughout New England and Virginia offering her custom-designed bracelets, earrings and necklaces made from semi-precious gemstones at craft fairs and festivals. She was also an avid lover of tennis, having taken up the sport later in life and playing well into her seventies.

A role model for strength, wit and self-reliance, Emily was a beloved wife, proud mother and grandmother, and will be sadly missed by her family.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Jenny Pentheny of Mesa, AZ; daughter Gail Pentheny of Dover, NH; son and daughter-in-law John and Michele Donlon of Scituate, MA; and her grandchildren, Kate, Luke and Libby Donlon of Scituate.
