Donald Carles Godwin died peacefully August 26, 2019, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 80.
Son of the late Bib & Mary Godwin (Martin) of Hialeah FL, sister Judy Woodruff of Sanford, FL, sister Joan Sanchez, of Castleberry FL, brother in law to Priscilla Evans & husband Bill of Wareham, Christina B (Calway) Landolfi & Richie of Stoughton, MA; Don was the beloved husband of 48 years to Pamela Teresa Godwin who preceded him in death by 6 months to the day. Adoring Father to Pamela Weber & husband Marc of Raynham, Daniel Godwin & wife Kate of Hanson. Treasured Grandfather of Marc (Scooter) Weber of Whitman, Ryan Weber of Raynham, and Abby, Olivia & Isabelle Godwin of Hanson; Uncle, Cousin and friend to many.
Growing up in Hialeah FL, Don graduated from High school in 1957 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, 3rdBn, 1stITR, MCB, at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Upon completion of his military service, Don pursued his passion for culinary arts, working for Valle’s Steakhouse. He was relocated to Massachusetts for this position where he met and married his beloved wife Pamela. Together, they raised their family in Hanson and ran Weownit Restaurant in Pembroke MA; it was known for having “the best fishermen’s platter on the South Shore.” In later years, Don worked for Symmons Industries Inc. in Braintree where he managed the polishing division. After being retired for a few years, Don, who was a workhorse by nature, decided he couldn’t sit still and pursued a part time job at Shaw’s Supermarket in Hanson, MA, working on the deli and seafood counter. Don enjoyed chatting with patrons and sharing his trade secrets on how to make the best seafood dishes.
In their recent years, Don and Pam enjoyed traveling across New England to Antique Car shows and walks on the beach on Cape Cod with their dog Max.
All services for Donald will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Research Institute.
