Raymond Neville Brown

Raymond Neville Brown, 93, died January 18, 2015. Raymond was born in Columbia, SC to a military family, living at one time in the Panama Canal Zone. Raymond eventually moved to Halifax, MA, graduating from Whitman High School in 1939, where he met his future wife Marion (Bette) Elizabeth Johnson. On April 15, 1944 they were married in an evening ceremony at her residence, The Old Whitman Homestead. He served in the 82nd Airborne during World War II, in France and Germany. He received the Bronze Star for his service during the Korean War. He was a military reservist for 25 years.

 

He graduated from Ohio State in 1947 and received his Masters of Education from Boston University in 1956. He taught History at both Whitman and Hingham High Schools. Then he transitioned to Personnel Director for Miller Brewing Company (Wisconsin), The Winchester Hospital (Massachusetts), and Pandora Industries (New Hampshire). Upon the death of his wife in 1975, he moved from New Hampshire to Cape Cod becoming owner of The Village Pub. In 1989, he moved across country to Phoenix, Arizona.

 

Raymond was an avid golfer, gardener, reader, history buff, enjoyed theatre, concerts, and always was happiest in the company of friends and family. He was involved in several civic organizations especially focusing on those with developmental disabilities and was an active member of various Episcopal Churches, especially Grace Church (Manchester, NH) and St. Mary's (Barnstable, MA).

 

Raymond is survived by his daughter, Sharon Lee Brown of Brookline, MA., his son David Leslie Brown and daughter-in-law Sue Michael Brown of Boxford, MA, and his daughter Alison Jean Provost of Hanson, MA. Papa Ray/Grampa Ray leaves his beloved grandchildren: Nichol Elizabeth Brown and Tyler Demitrios Brown of Boxford, Trevor Alden Foster Provost and Devon Alden Johnson Provost of Hanson, MA, as well as nieces Jessica Brown of San Francisco, CA., Bette Brown Hodges of Midlothian, VA., and nephew Andrew Brown, of Lynchburg, VA. Raymond also leaves a brother, Quentin Brown, and his wife, L of Las Vegas, NV. Raymond is survived by many dear and wonderful friends!

 

The funeral service is to be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 3pm at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 17 Church Street, Hanover MA.*Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery Spring 2015
