Grace A. McGinnis ( Ryan) of Hanson, passed away at her daughter's home on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 after a long battle with cancer and Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Boston on December 3, 1934 to the late Thomas and Margaret ( McAleer) Ryan. She was the youngest of six siblings.
Grace was raised and educated in South Boston where she graduated from The Archbishop Cushing Central High School in 1952 and Boston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1955 where she became an RN. Grace worked as a nurse for the Red Cross before marrying the late George H. McGinnis on February 1, 1958 . They were married for 44 years before his death in 2014. They lived and brought up their children in Hanson, Massachusetts where she helped him and later her son, run Hanson Hobby . She also worked as a nurse and then nursing supervisor at the Cranberry Specialty Hospital in Hanson for twenty years.
Grace is survived by her two children Judey McGinnis-Trosky and her husband Stephen of Middleborough, and her son George M.McGinnis and his wife Carol of Whitman. She also had three grandchildren, Rachel , Lindsey , and Andrew all of whom she adored. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, and sister in-laws.
Grace enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing, collecting cookbooks, going out to dinner, and most of all spending time with family, friends, and her beloved cats. She was always joking around and especially loved teasing her son in-law Stephen. Grace was a compassionate caring woman who fiercely loved her family. She will be deeply missed, but comfort is given in knowing she is with God, her family, and friends restored in both body and mind.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects on Monday, November 25, 2019 from 5 :00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a service at 7:00PM at the Leighton--MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 Washington Street, (Corner Rte. 58) Hanson, Massachusetts. A private burial service will be on Tuesday where she will join her husband at the Bourne National Cemetery.
