Adelaide (Dell) Emery Hancock of Halifax formerly of Hanson, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the age of 87. Dell was predeceased by her first husband Benjamin W. Atwood and second husband Charles E. Hancock, her parents Lloyd A. and Katherine (Mitchell) Emery. Her sisters Virginia P. Warren and Barbara J. Ambrose and her beloved daughter Tracy (Atwood) Sayce.
Dell was a teacher at Southeastern Regional Technical High School from 1975 until her retirement in 2003. She had many interests outside of her family, she loved interior decorating, boating, gardening, and traveling especially to Florida in the winter. Dell also enjoyed water aerobics and days at the pool with her best friend from high school, Lois Doyle of Pembroke, MA.
Dell was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children. Her presence was a cherished gift and a magical time spent with all who knew her. She was quick witted, had a wonderful sense of humor and a courageous spirit. She carried herself with elegance and grace and was a true inspiration, always keeping up with the latest fashion trends, never missed attending a family event, made the best welsh rarebit and truly loved her chocolate Hershey’s kisses.
She will live on in our hearts forever. This is not goodbye, for we’ll be seeing her everywhere, our beloved “Matriarch”, the greatest mother , a.k.a. grandma, kitty gram, mimi and gigi a family could ever have. It was an honor and a privilege to say you were “ours”. Eighty-seven years. Don’t they go by in a blink.
Dell is survived by three children, Dean Atwood and his wife Leslie of Rockland, ME, Ginger Wood and her fiancé Robert Surrette of Marshfield, MA and Jan MacRoberts and her fiancé Christopher Ozolins of Halifax, MA. Dell was the proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Benjamin Atwood, Benjamin Wood, Nicholas Wood, Gabrielle MacRoberts, Genevieve MacRoberts, Andrew Sayce and Gregory Sayce. Also survived by four great grandchildren, Emma Wood, Nathan Wood, Abigail Sayce and Benjamin Sayce.
Per Dell’s wishes, a celebration of her life will be held in the spring which will be conveyed to family and friends.
Arrangements by Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 West Washington St., Hanson, MA.
