Melvin H. Ellis, age 88, of Hanson, died peacefully, Monday, January 30, 2017 after a long illness.

Mel was born in Hanson and lived his entire life there. He was a graduate of South Shore Regional Vocational Technical School, Class of 1946. He was employed as a linotype/press operator for Rumford Litho in North Abington for twenty years. Previously, he had worked for New England Art, also in Abington. Mel was a Korean War veteran, discharged after having lost his right eye. He was a member of the DAV. He was an automobile enthusiast, driving and fixing cars as a "shadetree mechanic" as early as 13 years old. He was also very much interested in family genealogy, having spent years building a family history upon his retirement. Mel was a very private man who was devoted to his family as father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Beloved husband for 62 years of Jeanne (Cunningham) Ellis. Devoted father of three sons, Wayne and his partner Rita of Clearwater, FL, Paul and his wife Lynn of Adelaide , Australia and Kenneth and his wife Dianne of Carver, Ma. Loving grandfather of Amanda and her husband Mark of Clearwater, Stephen and Jared Ellis of Pembroke, Jesse and his wife Viki of Carver, Adam and his partner Jenna of Baltimore, MD, Corey and Amy Ellis of Carver. Cherished great-grandfather of Logan and Malorie Ellis of Carver and Samantha and Madison Van Patten-Steiger of Clearwater. Beloved son of the late George R. and Lillian B. (Collins) Ellis of Hanson. Dear brother of the late Louise Perry of Hanson, the late Robert Ellis of Halifax, the late Roberta Conway of Pembroke and the late Warren C. Ellis, Sr. of Pembroke and the late Lester Collins of Hanson. Mel is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Interment with Military Honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will follow later in the year.
