John J. Ford

March 19, 1932 ~ July 19, 2015 (age 83) 83 Years Old

John J. Ford of Hanson, formerly of Hyde Park passed away peacefully, at home with his three “girls” by his side on Sunday, July 19, 2015. He was 83 years old. He was born in Cambridge; son of the late Thomas & Sarah (Smyth) Ford. He was the loving husband of the late Florence T. (Driscoll) Ford, and the beloved father of Kathleen F. Moriarty and her late husband Jack of Hanson, Margaret E. Biciunas and her husband Peter of Norwell, Christine N. Masuret and her husband Paul of Pembroke, and the late John J. Ford Jr.. He was the devoted brother of Mary E. Wall of Billerica and the late Nora Ford. He was the cherished grandfather of Daniel Ford Moriarty, Julia Biciunas, Mark Biciunas, Grace Biciunas, Catherine Masuret, Rosemary Masuret, and John Masuret. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. His true love was Florence and his family and was happiest when spending time with them.

John was a member of the first graduating Class of 1949 from Matignon High School in Cambridge where he met his wife of 57 years Florence. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. John loved music and singing starting at St. Mary’s and Matignon in Cambridge, continued to sing for many years both in the choir and as a soloist at many weddings at St. Pius X in Hyde Park/Milton and Holy Name Church in West Roxbury. He was so very honored and proud to have been selected to sing at the Mass held for Pope John II on Boston Common on October 1, 1979. John was a star baseball pitcher with an envied fastball as well as a star basketball forward while at Matignon High School. He was a Catholic All Star for both of these sports and was inducted into Matignon’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. He worked for 32 years for New England Telephone/NYNEX, rising from a cableman to hold both management and training positions.

Funeral from the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home 4 West Washington St. (at Rte 58) Hanson on Thursday at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Joseph The Worker Church, 1 Maquan St., Hanson with burial to follow in Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 3-7 PM in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John’s memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Joseph the Worker Church 1 Maquan St., Hanson, MA 02341.
