Iris Kathryn (Stevens) Capobianco, 97, of Pembroke, MA, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 6th. She was born to Mildred and Lloyd Stevens in Hillsborough, NB, Canada and then grew up in Somerville, MA.
She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII working as a plotter on a base in Newfoundland mapping out the planes flying in to refuel and then continuing on to Europe, including the flights to D-Day. She was a member of the Canadian Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked for many years at Norfolk County Hospital and after retirement worked at Filene’s Fine Jewelry counter. Upon retiring from Filene’s, she volunteered at the desk at the Pembroke Council on Aging, making many new friends. She enjoyed spending her summers in Hillsborough, NB and enjoyed traveling with friends and family.
This amazing woman shall be sorely missed. She is predeceased by her husband, Warren Noble Hatch, followed by Anthony Capobianco. She is survived by her son, Stephen L. Hatch of Campobello Island, NB, Canada and her daughter and son-in-law, Susan M. and James C. Holmes of Rockland, MA. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as many loving friends.
Calling hours will be at the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 W. Washington St., Hanson, MA on Thursday, Nov. 14th, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15th, at 10:00 am at First Church, 105 Center St., Pembroke, MA followed by interment at Union Cemetery, 40 S. Franklin St., Holbrook, MA. Donations to the Pembroke Council on Aging in Iris’ memory would be greatly appreciated (COA, 144 Center St., Pembroke, MA 02359).
