A. Michael Mullane

A. Michael Mullane (BFD E21 Ret. 3rd District Vice President of the International Association of Fire Fighters and Vice President of Massachusetts of AFL-CIO Veteran US Navy) of Quincy formerly of Dorchester died on January 1, of complications from surgery with his loving family at his bedside. Mike was preceded in death by his parents William (BPD Detective Ret.) and Laurentine (Waggett) Mullane and his brother Neal Mullane Sr. (Lt. BFD E21 Ret.) and his wife Elaine. Mike is survived by his best friend, the love of his life Elaine Malone of South Boston, her sons Sean and his wife Stacy, their son Jack of Lucedale, Mississippi, and Scott and his son Nolan of Pensacola, Florida. Mike was the devoted brother of William “Bo” Mullane (BPD Lt. Detective Ret.) and his wife Patricia of South Boston, Janice “Sissy” Mullane (BTD Ret.) of Quincy, Jacqueline Miner and her husband Arthur of Hanson, and Ann Diodati of Ipswich. Mike was the proud uncle of Maura Ranieri of Braintree, Deirdre Pinkham of Dorchester, Katelyn O’Toole of West Roxbury, Tina Grimaldi of Whitman, Joseph Grimaldi of Quincy, Michael Grimaldi of Abington, Neal Mullane Jr. of Dorchester, Suzanne Gillis of Dorchester, Judean Andreassi of Pembroke, Reneé Miner of Kingston, Lauren Pothier of Pembroke, Arthur Miner Jr. of Marlborough, Nicholas Diodati of Salisbury, and William Diodati of Ipswich. Mike was born and raised in Dorchester. He graduated from Boston Technical High School before joining the Navy. After returning home Mike joined the Boston Fire Department. 

Mike was a Veteran US Navy, Boston firefighter for 43 years assigned to Engine 21, past President Boston Firefighters Local 718, senior member of the IAFF Executive Board serving for the past 32 years, founding member Mass Fallen Firefighters Memorial Committee, Executive Council member Mass AFL-CIO, former member Board of Directors of the Boston Public Health Commission, member One Hundred Club, member John P. McKeon AMVETS Post 146, charter member Boston Gaelic Fire Brigade, member of the Halligan Club of Charlestown 

Mike’s death will not only leave a hole in our family but also in his firefighter families. He was the type of guy who would give you the shirt off his back. He was the go to guy in our family. He knew everyone and was able to help you with whatever problem presented to him. He was a constant presence and a source of inspiration for all his nieces and nephews. Their children, the next generation, knew exactly how to find Uncle Mike as soon as they opened the door at Florian Hall. He loved them and they loved him. Family meant everything to Mike. It is no coincidence that little Rocco Mullane, the family namesake, looks exactly like his Great Uncle Mike, and Great he was. Mike was strong and courageous in the face of adversity none more evident then in the last 6 weeks of his life. He was a very special guy who touched many hearts during his life, liked by most who met him and loved by all those who were fortunate enough to know him. Mike will be missed but never forgotten. He will be in our hearts until we meet again. Rest in Peace Mike. 

Visitation will be held at Florian Hall 55 Hallet Street Dorchester, MA on Thursday January 7 from 2-8pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Brendan’s Church on Friday January 8 at 10:00am. Burial with Military honors will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery Dorchester, MA.
